Fete Day - Saturday 5th July

We will be running the BBQ at the Village Fete again this year. This is a major fund raising event for the Club and we would ask all members to volunteer some time on Saturday to either help set up in the morning or help man the stall in the afternoon and evening. Please contact Paul Stimpson or any Committee member if you can spare some time. Remember the more money raised here means it is less likely that the membership fees will increase next year!

Last week

Sunday saw the Friendly Team maintain its unbeaten record as they travelled to Cambourne. The Cambourne openers made a brisk start racing to 44 without loss, but 5-2 from Adam Dean left them reeling at 61 for 5. Two wickets each for Nathan Dean and Simon Smith finished Cambourne off but not before they had posted 126. After losing an early wicket Bar Hill seemed to be coasting to an victory as Mark Thompson (38) and Martin Cullum (34) took the score to 84 for 1. Cambourne brought on two young spinners which sparked a Bar Hill collapse to 101 for 7. Bar Hill recovered though and a swift 16 from Nathan Dean saw Bar Hill to victory.

Both League sides tasted defeat on Saturday. The first Team went down to Cokenach 1sts at home (match report HERE). The 2nd Team travelled to Bluntisham 2nds. Batting first Bar Hill put on 76 for the first wicket thanks to openers Jim Neal and Peter Howard. Unfortunately after Peter was out for 30 it prompted a mini collapse. Despite Jim going on to complete his half century Bar Hill found themselves on 97 for 5. David Fletcher added an unbeaten 29 off 31 balls to get Bar Hill to 148 before they ran out of overs. The Bluntisham openers put on 47 for their first wicket. However they did not collapse and powered on to victory losing only two more wickets both taken by Ben Dugan.

Thursday was not a good day for Bar Hill with two youth teams losing due to poor batting displays. The Under 15's took on fellow title hopefuls Wilburton who batted first. Bar Hill got off to an awful start with the first two balls being a no ball six and a no ball 4! Bar Hill recovered and 5-8 from Matt Churchley redressed the balance and Wilburton finished on 102 for 8. The match was over as a contest as early as the third over as Bar Hill slumped to 5 for 4. By the eighth over Bar Hill were 18 for 8 and were only batting for pride. They did manage to get to 29 but were still a long way short of their target. The Under 12's match against Waterbeach was a similar affair. Waterbeach batted first but were restricted to 77 all out. Matthew O'Sullivan took 3-12 and Nick Whyatt picked up a couple of wickets and Bar Hill could see the potential of their first win of the season. Unfortunately, Bar Hill could only manage 33 runs when they batted and the elusive win escaped them again.

The Under 14's recorded their second defeat in a row against Cottenham on Wednesday. Bar Hill batted first but quickly slipped to 27 for 5. Sam Baker (19) and Jim Orvis (13) managed to double the score before the next wicket fell but Bar Hill could only finish on 60. 5-14 from Jason Churchley kept the game alive for Bar Hill but Cottenham held on to win by 3 wickets.
